Stripped my steering relay down to replace shaft as oil seal was leaking due to shaft wear.

Had bother with my home made compression tool compressed ok and held but struggled to remove the tool [worked ok the last time I used it WHTF

Newshaft was bought off ebay advertised as Santana made look ok did an auto centre pop test on shaft ends seems tha same hardness as old one, plan on dressing the old one up and buying a couple of speedy sleeves for it to keep as spare.
Back together

Also have a heavy duty retainer plate made by West lakes landrover for the lower end , bought it knowing I would have to file the centre nearly ready to refit this morning. Similiar to this one

All refitted now and back in use

Nay power steering wears the edges off your tyres and you need all the rubber you can get off road.

Strangely enough I was playing with my steering relay today. Trying to remove it from the old chassis.

After many hits from the hammer, soaking it for months with penetrating fluid (which has done nothing as the bottom end was still dry!), the angle grinder came out, which was a mistake.    I went in a bit hard at the bottom casing and nicked it.

At which point I decided that was enough for today!

Yours looks like a much more professional set up / explanation.  I've got one of those heavy duty rings sat waiting.  It'd be good to know if it makes much difference to the steering?

I have a Marsland chassis and the tube for the relay has always been to large fitted a good lower clamp standard design and the bolts kept coming loose , fitted a shim like below and steering was positive and bolts stayed tight.

When I fitted new plate yeterday I left the shim out if bolts work loose I will refit it.
My steering is very positive but managed to fit top arm a few degrees out as my steering wheel is annoyingly not in right position when driving straight a head will have to remove grill and top arm to correct.
If you have only nicked the casting it should be ok.
