The sooner the better.
« on: April 08, 2015, 11:53:24 pm »
I love my td5 defender to bits, it's a perfect work horse and great as an everyday vehicle. The only problem is, it gets noticed too much because of its big chunky tyres and loud appearance. Simply parking up at the side of the road attracts the attention of local game keeper thinking I'm some kind of scally on the rob.

I like a vehicle that gets attention, but mines for the wrong reason. It does well with the younger immature crowds, but not many people realise I'm not about that. I just want a pleasant and relaxing ride without being followed by a convoy lynch mob and their sheepdogs.

I don't really have the choice to get rid of the defender, I tbh I don't want to, but the attention it's beginning to bring me is unwanted. I'd love to get my series on the road tomorrow but it's not going to happen and it's not the ideal vehicle to use everyday the way I do.

So can anyone suggest what I can do yo my defender to make it less noticable. Constructive suggestions only please.

jack, the car isnt the problem,
I never got any bother in either of my defenders the td5 or 200tdi, even though the 200 tdi was even more capable than your td5 ( has more goodies on it) its where your stopping to be stopped and they will continue to recognise your car.

so heres some ideas.
1. ONLY STICK TO PROPER GREEN LANES THAT YOU KNOW AND YOU ARE CERTAIN AND CAN BE PROVEN VIA THE COUNCILS WEBSITE TO BE GREEN LANES
2. BRIDLEWAYS/PUBLIC FOOTPATHS/CLEARWAYS/ AND ALL THAT JAZZ, I MYSELF ARE UNSURE OF WHICH WE ARE ALLOWED TO GO DOWN OR UP. MORE GUIDANCE NEEDED.
3. STAY OFF OTHER PEOPLES LAND. NO EXCUSES. IF YOU NEED TO GO ON THE LAND SEEK THEIR PERMISSION FIRST. BETTER TO SEEK PERMISSION THEN BEG FOR FORGIVENESS.
4. CONSIDER WHERE YOU PARK, PARK IN LAYBAYS/PARKING SPACES NOT VERGES WHICH BLOCK A PERSONS GATE

as you well know and we all know thefts from rural areas are going up we spend a lot of time trying to prevent them and thefts of our own land rovers. so think if you were in there position there right to act in that way. yes, they do over react but its there right to do so.

I as well as everyone else loves the joys of owning a land rover just because they do everything . you can sit on the road or fight your way up the hill. but to emphasise again think where you are and what effect you may have.

because the more you do it, the more people you upset will lead to all of us been tarnished with the same brush. there is a constant battle to keep green lanes open but why should we fight if people are going to go places they shouldn't.

dont want you to loose your landy, dont want it to get damaged. dont want you to get hurt. dont want people not to associate themselves with you  because your carrying a title and in our job pal its not going to be good if you have your license plate plastered all over reports

Dont want to sound like am been condescending or anything
just looking out for you.
Benson

P.S. get a new mid box fitted it sounds good but attracts attention
P.P.S by a farm or some land and green lane there you can do whatever you want.
