Aye it was a blast!!

Disappointed there was no one from CCL though. There was only one leafer, Kurt, from Colne, Lancs who joins us often and a modified ranger rover classic (Built 1993) representing the pre 1983 era. :/

In all we had x5 Discos, x5 Defenders, x1 Series III and a x1 Range Rover. 12 All together!!

We split into two groups, Myself leading the first group of 7 and Benson leading an inexperienced group of 5. Stated off at Langwathby at 6:30 we did a lane from Culgaith back to the A686, then continued up to Melmerby were we bypassed Gamblesby on the bypass track. Then over the road onto Old Hartside Pass were it began to get a bit snowy.

This wasn't a problem until we crossed the road onto the Twotop Hill area. The snow was about 3ft deep in drifts. There had been plenty of off-road traffic up there which had left a polished icey surface. We made the mistake of stopping to re-attach  the gates that had been rammed and thrown off the hinges onto the ground (I presume by a group of reckless Jap drivers from Carlisle I have recently waged a keyboard war with on Facebooks) Bensons group had caught us up as we attempted to mobilize again. Only snow chains would have helped us. It was slow, cold and a laugh moving 3ft at a time on waffle boards up a particularly steep and rutted track. There was no option to turn around as a Ford Ranger unluckily found out who was too impatient to wait for us to get up the hill. He ended up grounding his chassis on the hard track while all of his 4 wheels had dropped into the snow filled ditches either side. A brave recovery by Dan in his range rover sorted that problem out.

Meanwhile, Benson took his group on the road to the jailhouse road and meet us at the top behind the cafe once my group had made it to the top. We continued on through the white out to do the Jailhouse road, whilst Bensons group negotiated the icey "Hill of Death" as it was appropriately nicknamed. Both groups then went on to do 5 lanes ends and decided to call it a night there. We had planned to visit the Fox Inn at Ousby for a drink and bite to eat but at 10:30 we were too late for food. So we decided to skip the last lane and hottail it back to Weatherspoons in Penrith for 11pm last orders. We were all stood at the bar waiting to order at 10:55 but being a Saturday night, it was packed with young party goers. They refused to serve us, so Maccy'Ds was all that was left to refuel before the boys had a long, cold drive back to Lancs. Oh and once of the discos needed refuelling too, as he ran out of diesel!!

Overall a great night!! yepp we got a little delayed (My fault totally) but it was partly intentional as it got people out of their vehicles, talking to each other and working as a team to get the vehicles safely up the icey hill of death!!

We're not sure what we're doing for December yet. We've got the Chirstmas meal on the  2nd December and although it's booked you are welcome to join. Contact Benson if you want to put an order in. ;) Hope to see you all soon. I miss your teasing, its not the same on a forum as in person.  :P

There are a few pictures on the facebook page. Prof i've given up on the photobucket thing. You can do the honours.

A friend of mine is hoping to tag along in his S2 88.

I was thinking about putting sparklers on the cans so they're more visible in the dark. (Which by the way were acceptable for the MOT.) what do you think?

Darren
The Fox Ousby has a campsite I am willing to stop over.
Doug

Only if you were planning to Doug. I'm happy to throw down the sleeping bag in the back and kip for a few hours before heading back south. As you know its a 4hr trip in Buddy which makes it a long old days drive.

bit too cold for camping  8)

book yourself in to a cheap b+b

if its the routes i'm thinking it should be finished about 22:30 - so given the usual lack of talent moments and breakdowns probably sometime in the morning so no time for sleep  ;D

All,
after speaking to saint nick kirkpatrick it was discussed that yourselves and the lake district land rover meet people meet up and dolanes in the dark up hartside/alston.
I am proposing saturday meeting at langwathby the shepheards pub. For 18:00 to depart for 18:30 I have an idea of a route which is the same as last years lanes in the dark.

post on here if your coming and plčase let nick come in a land rover

will cofirm dates later. Let me know your thoughts snd who would be up  for it.
