Increased damage to the lanes
« on: May 09, 2016, 06:41:36 pm »
Another report today of lane damage
It's getting too common lately
Have spoken to the farmer and he was not a happy man
He luckily does know the difference between green laners such as ourselves and off roaders
It's going to take a bit of sorting out, however when talking to the farmer he is the actual landowner and is willing to allow us permission to do repairs
Who's up for it?
Need grafters and basic tools
Over to you
it's a tough job - but someone has to do it

It's the lane down from hartside cafe
Totally off piste action
Need some shovels and some posts knocked in
Glass are supplying some marker signs to put on the posts and gates
Need a few willing bodies to tidy up the off piste action and calm the situation
Local landowners are up in arms and we have offered help to keep the peace
They are not blaming us but are threatening to block and lock the lanes
A bit of kwality PR is needed to get them onside and will help us with other ongoing stuff
it's a tough job - but someone has to do it

Doug
A mate was showing me some photo's today taken 14 years ago at said Bothy and my god I have aged a lot in 14 years.
Certainly not a straight line graph of decline , had walked out the 41/2 miles on Monday after a few beers to about 3am and my god I felt like I had done ten rounds with Cassius Clay totally shagged.

I have had to give an interview for the local press   :o
Tried to put across that a small minority is responsible and the rest of use use them with respect and should not be tarred with the same brush
Got across how we try to work with the farmers to protect our local lanes and how lucky we are for the well kept scenery that the farmers in Cumbria look after
Mentioned that it is a national issue affecting all parts of the country and how we would not like to see our lanes closed as in other areas
Pointed out that more national based Landrover forums were behind us and supporting us
Also did the usual name checks from all involved, this forum included  ;D
Let's hope it does some good and I'm not too misquoted  ::)

Right
A massive success
About 30 or so turned up - bit of a result
All biscuits eaten and believe it or not puddlejumper turned up and ate a few and some bacon butties and coffee of course and then buggered off early ( mind you he broke down and needed a yellow taxi - maybe the extra weight)
Ended up sorting the majority of the off piste damage with the mini digger and tidied and re-seeded by hand
Minor damage repairs done with shovels and sweat
Some re-sculptering of the lane damage was done and lots and lots of marker posts were put in and marked up
Some fencing was also erected to block access to the off piste areas to prevent further damage
The gate from the cafe is now locked and signed up - the correct access has been better marked up and should make things better
I will post photos when I get some sent to me - sorry I was a bit busy doing rather than taking pictures

Thank-you to Gossamer for the biscuits and stuff - they went down well
And for the person who asked to remain anonymous - I bought drinks for all who turned up before the girls started the cooking off and started supplying the freebie stuff - I have kept receipts for you if required - a huge thank-you for your more than generous donations
The farmers were shocked at the turnout and genuinely impressed by the amount that got done - they were surprised at how much good will there is around the country
Local press turned up again and I will try and do some copy stuff on that for you
Thank you all so much for your support
