The Lake District Landrover Meet / Re: Say Hello! and post a picture of your vehicle!« on: October 25, 2015, 06:59:01 pm »
Hello all. Tried to post a picture on here but technical incompetence prevails.... I'm on Facebook as Romulus Wolf. Been in to land rovers for a long time. Drove military lightweights, 3/4 tonnes &1 tonners (101s) around the UK and backwards and forwards to Germany in the 80's in my army days. Escaped the rat race in London in 2002...bought a series 3 as soon as I could.. Done most of the Greenlanes in Cumbria - mainly solo. Had a defender 90 and still run a Japanese re-imported Discovery 1 as a daily driver. Bought the Wolf 18 Months ago and love it...best of series simplicity with a 300 TDI + power steering. Also got me a Sankey☺.Met up with the guys earlier this year...enjoyed the company and crack. As long as work /shifts and family life permit i'm always up for a trip out.......

Cumbria greenlanes / Re: Summer evening run -- part three.« on: August 20, 2015, 08:16:36 am »
What a night. It seemed like a winters night when we set off from the car park. Due to the conditions we decided to go straight to Breast high lane and if time permitted do the minor lanes on the return leg. Got down to the lane and all went well. Water in the ford was only about a foot deep. Most saw a trail bike do a somersault about 300 yards ahead of us. We got up to help him but he was OK and got on his way. The big left hander was very loose and greasy. I took a couple of runs at it ( must remember to engage diff lock !!) Then everyone followed. Traction control on the td5 made it look a breeze. V8 88 made a lovely rumble. Descent went well. Longer vehicles took a couple of shunts to get through the narrow gateway. One of the concrete Gulley's was badly washed out on the downside. We did a bit of backfilling to leave it in a better state than we started - and to make the return easier. When we got to the bottom we decided to call it a day - the weather, falling light and minor mechanical on the 88 made the decision to get back to the beehive an easy one. Jack got some top footage of the evening - hopefully someone technical can set up a link to it.

Cool video... I should take the wolf. Would make a good photo at the factory gate..... I have an acoustic sound deadening system fitted to the wolf -- ear defenders!! I drove to West Germany a couple of times in lightweights and 1 tonne land rovers - fortunately the queen was paying the petrol!!! So a trip down the M6 should be no problem....

Has anyone been to the Solihull factory tour yet ?
Just got my ticket to go -- As the production line is closing in December this is the last chance to see defender's being built. They have even built a reproduction of the 1948 production line to keep the leaders happy. I feel I should do the trip in the wolf - but six hours (or more!!) On the M6 might be too much....mind you a picture at the factory gates might make it worthwhile! The tickets for the 1\2 day trip are £45 and they are filling up... 12

Wednesday the 19th August is GO ! Plan to meet up at the Beehive for 1800hrs (6pm) to split into groups (if needed) Map orientation etc. We will depart at 1830hrs prompt ( lights starting to fade and we don't want to miss last orders). Will head down A6 and do a couple of minor lanes before up & back down Breasthigh road. Thats probably enough for the evening, would encourage all participants to ensure they have the means to recieve a tow if required - i.e. proper recovery points at the front and a bridle / tow strap or rope in order to get a pull.

See you there.
Was over in Scaryport yesterday and saw a very nice RR classic parked up. N reg in Black. as i was pressing my nose against the window the owner turned up. Had a good natter. He bought the RR a couple of weeks ago and was very pleased with his purchase. I wasn't so sure about the led halo headlights - but was relieved when he saind one of the first things he was going to do was get them out....We even went for a cruise round Broughton Moor. He's got a Series II and a defender under construction. Told him about the forums and meets / green lane run outs so we might see him soon. Did you collect my stickers ? 15
